Danika shares: Passion and a Belief that Yoga is for Everybody with Her Students

I was first introduced to yoga through a friend encouraging me to try Bikram style. It was enlightening and empowering! I practiced off and on while living in Colorado, but my passion for yoga blossomed here in Kansas City.  I found a renewed love for spirituality and a closeness to God as I continued to practice. Yoga became more about mindfulness than about competitiveness. Thus, I realized I wanted to share my new-found passion with others! I received my teacher training at KCFitnessLink in Kansas City, Kansas in September 2011.  I feel that yoga is for Every Body! And, Any yoga is better than no yoga! I am blessed to have found this path of yoga and hope to continue to pass along the yoga love!
Namaste.

Sharon Loves Learning and Sharing Yoga with Her Students September 5, 2012

I was a full-time homemaker and after my 3 daughters were in school full-time, I realized that my life had changed and I to needed to redefine my role in life.  I began taking massage classes at MTTI and discovered that I love helping people heal.  So I completed the curriculum and became a Certified Massage Therapist.  Meanwhile I took my first yoga class in 1998 while finishing my certification.   At first I loved it as a self-care for myself as a body worker, but began to see how the relationship between massage and the wisdom of yoga could also benefit my clients.

I received my 200 RYT with Suzette Schultes’ Yoga School of Therapeutics. Through her certification I have studied with many amazing teachers like Doug Keller, Aadil Palkhivala,  Rod Striker and many others.  I am also certified as a “Relax and Renew” teacher by Judith Hanson Laster.   I love to share the therapeutic and restorative qualities of yoga.

Recently, I attended a workshop by Gary Kraftsow.  I experienced his “Viniyoga” and was transformed.  This form of yoga is deep, gentle, powerful and life changing for me.  I have attended the first of 4 two-week intensives to become a Certified Viniyoga Teacher.

I love learning and sharing with and from my students. I hope I will always see “through the eye of the student”.

We’re excited to announce our NEW Gratitude Basket at YouYoga! We’ve been sharing yoga at our space in Overland Park, Kansas for 1 year, and many of our students have been present with us from the beginning…..they’ve seen the transitions in our space, in our offerings and in our staff of fabulous teachers!  Everything hasn’t always been ideal, but our students have stood by us…..day after day, and practice after practice. We want to share our thanks for their support and belief in YouYoga with our Gratitude Basket!

Here’s the scoop! Students who have filled their class card (index card) will be able to pull a gift from the Gratitude Basket. Gifts will range from free classes, discounted passes, gift cards from Starbucks and Panera!

We love our students, and we love what we do, so it feels good to give back to the people who make YouYoga and the sharing of Yoga/Pilates possible. We have multiple students who are qualified to pull from the basket. It will make it’s apperance at the first of next week!

Get ready to share some Gratitude!!!  Off to get a basket to fill now :)!

Darrell shares: a passion to help his students the way he was helped September 1, 2012

My interest in working in the fitness industry started in 2006.  I was involved in a car accident in 2001 that caused a crushed pelvis, collapsed lungs and a broken leg and ankles, among several other injuries.  An orthopedic doctor told me I would never walk unassisted again, but after five years on crutches, a walker and a cane, and seven hip surgeries including two total hip replacements, I began walking again, and more!  With the use of many different rehabilitation therapies, I found Pilates to be one of the most helpful to strengthen his body.  Learning to walk again, created a passion for me to help people, as I was helped.

I became a N.E.T.A. Certified Group Exercise Instructor, and I began teaching Pilates and Cycle, and then Boot Camp, Body Shaper, Bar Bell Strength, Joints in Motion and most recently, in March of 2011, I became a Water Arts Aerobics teacher.  Upon teaching this wide variety of group exercise classes I saw many people with arthritis, or who had orthopedic surgeries, or had been injured.  Many of these people were struggling to regain their health.  This led me to become an A.C.E. Certified Personal Trainer in June of 2010.

Maris shares: the Benefits and Joy of Yoga with her students August 31, 2012

My yoga journey began back home in the Philippines in 2003. Starting a yoga practice and radically changing my diet and habits were among the best decisions I’ve made in my life. In Manila, I explored different styles such as Ashtanga, Bikram, and Vinyasa. As I practiced over the years, I discovered how to nurture myself, to listen to my body, and to be simply grateful for whatever the present moment brings. Yoga started out as a physical activity and slowly evolved into a deeper practice that helps my psychological and spiritual growth. Upon moving to the U.S. in 2010, I started on the path to becoming a yoga teacher. I completed my yoga teacher training at KC Fitness Link and registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level. In addition, I attended Levels 1 and 2 trainings with Yoga Fit and other workshops with renowned visiting teachers such as Desiree Rumbaugh and Max Strom. It brings me great joy to share yoga with my students and to witness them enjoying the many benefits of this wonderful practice.

Danelle shares: Being in the Moment, Day by Day with Her Students August 30, 2012

I have been doing Yoga for about ten years. It started out as just a physical workout, to improve strength, balance, flexibility, but almost without my noticing, it grew into a spiritual journey too, and I found yoga permeating every aspect of my life. It helped me as a singer, an actor, a grade school teacher, a daughter, a partner, a friend. It really helps me be a better version of myself while, at the same time, helping me discover and appreciate who that really is. I found myself teaching yoga in my drama classes, to help with posture, relaxation and focus, and using yoga in my own acting career to balance and calm myself before going onstage.

In 2006 I was lucky enough to spend some time in Ireland with my aunt, a wonderful and inspiring yogi and yoga teacher, helping out in her yoga studio office and assisting with teaching kids yoga classes.  I thought, “When I grow up, I want to be a yoga teacher!” I don’t know that I’ve grown up yet,  but I did my formal yoga teacher training though KC Fitness Link, and am so blessed every day by the every widening circle of yoga students, teachers and practitioners that I now find myself surrounded by.

I love how, as Inyengar says, yoga means…”all our bones, flesh, fibers, ligaments, joints, senses, mind and intelligence are harnessed. In this way, the practice of asana, performed with all elements of our being, awakens and sharpens intelligence, until it is integrated with our senses, our mind, our memory, our consciousness and our soul. ” And I love how yoga teaches us to be in the moment, day by day, accepting where we are just now and knowing that, “if you learn a lot of little things, one day you end up knowing a big thing.”
