Danelle shares: Being in the Moment, Day by Day with Her Students August 30, 2012

I have been doing Yoga for about ten years. It started out as just a physical workout, to improve strength, balance, flexibility, but almost without my noticing, it grew into a spiritual journey too, and I found yoga permeating every aspect of my life. It helped me as a singer, an actor, a grade school teacher, a daughter, a partner, a friend. It really helps me be a better version of myself while, at the same time, helping me discover and appreciate who that really is. I found myself teaching yoga in my drama classes, to help with posture, relaxation and focus, and using yoga in my own acting career to balance and calm myself before going onstage.

In 2006 I was lucky enough to spend some time in Ireland with my aunt, a wonderful and inspiring yogi and yoga teacher, helping out in her yoga studio office and assisting with teaching kids yoga classes.  I thought, “When I grow up, I want to be a yoga teacher!” I don’t know that I’ve grown up yet,  but I did my formal yoga teacher training though KC Fitness Link, and am so blessed every day by the every widening circle of yoga students, teachers and practitioners that I now find myself surrounded by.

 I love how, as Inyengar says, yoga means…”all our bones, flesh, fibers, ligaments, joints, senses, mind and intelligence are harnessed. In this way, the practice of asana, performed with all elements of our being, awakens and sharpens intelligence, until it is integrated with our senses, our mind, our memory, our consciousness and our soul. ” And I love how yoga teaches us to be in the moment, day by day, accepting where we are just now and knowing that, “if you learn a lot of little things, one day you end up knowing a big thing.”

With all the new growth and changes happening at YouYoga….I thought it important to share with you the teachers of YouYoga too. We want you to know our stories, our passion, and what our goals are while sharing our teachings with our students.

So, over the next several days/weeks I’ll be posting our bios and photos in an attempt to give each of you a greater picture of who we are at YouYoga….as each of us strive to let your yoga practice be reflective of YOU!

Summer Happenings at YOUYOGA June 3, 2012

As I sit to write and share the Summer Happenings at YOUYOGA…..I’ve just realized that it’s almost our 1 year anniversary………that’s sooooooooooo crazy.  Things have really evolved and taken on their own shape in this last year.  I began this blog with the intention of sharing my passion, voice and love of yoga.  There have been moments of wonderful sharing…….and moments of….I have no idea what  I’m going to write about this week. 

However, I must admit that I’ve surprised myself at how much I’ve enjoyed having this outlet to connect with others, and I’m looking forward to transitioning YOUYOGA’s site into an even better resource for yoga, health and wellness for all individuals.  Soon YOUYOGA’s site will be getting a new look, and it’s my hope that we’ll have better tools to share our message of yoga with you for many years to come! 

Thank YOU for all of the support and encouragement that you have shown YOUYOGA…….it’s given us the courage to push past our limits so that we may continue to grow, while providing you with quality knowledge and support.  We wish you a joyful summer, and don’t forget to get your yoga groove on too!  Here are some specials and classes that might just be the right tune to make it possible.

need some clam?  we got the solution….come join us for a 90 minute restorative yoga practice, and reap the benefits of feeling supported.  you’ll experience 4-5 poses with the support of yoga props, blankets and bolsters. you’ll be guided by your breath as you release into a deeper state of calm, and sense of well- being.  dress in comfortable loose layers, and feel free to bring additional blankets for comfort.  additional classes will be held in july and august.

Chair Pilates helps you to locate your true core by using tactile touch.  Once the true core, or “powerhouse’ is located you begin to understand that all stability, and increased balance starts at the core, and flows out to the rest of the body.   All the way to the finger tips and toes.

When the breath is used in unison with a Chair Pilates practice it helps to give the body strength, allowing you to flow from one movement into the next.  It also helps to detoxify and replenish the body leaving you feeling energized after your practice.

A Chair Pilates practice helps to stretch and strengthen the entire body, one day at a time, one practice at a time.  You’ll also learn that Pilates is never to be forced.  It’s never to leave the body hurting or sore, but to make the body flexible, stable, and strong.

Level 1 (5-8 yrs): 4:00-4:45 pm

Level 2 (9-12 yrs): 5:00-5:45 pm

Cost:  54$ per session (9$ per class), or 12$ drop-in

By sharing yoga with children it can help to promote self-awareness, discipline and confidence in them.  It’s the ultimate learning through play!
